Marigold Travels is a Socially Conscious Travel company specializing in intimate small group tours focusing on the textiles, crafts and culture of India.
"As I have traveled in India over the years, I've told my travel tales in my newsletters to my customers. Many times I heard them exclaim that they would love to go along and see where I go and what I do. In 2012 I began offering my North India Textile Tour under Red Persimmon. With the change in my business structure to a partnership in 2017 and opening a store called Marigold Way, Jenny and I are happy to continue the tours." Katrina
Being a socially conscious travel company means personal tours of businesses which practice fair trade principals, promote traditional arts and give back to their community with a focus on children and women’s empowerment.
Traveling with textile artist and world traveler Katrina Ulrich adds a special level of hospitality and comfort as she has traveled in India for 20 years. She trains in hand block printing, designing her own fabrics and collections and spends 2-3 months a year in India working, exploring, networking, volunteering and sourcing

ABOUT ME
I was born in under the tropical sun of Madagascar to American parents. From an early age I have considered myself a nomadic global citizen, imbued with a love of third world countries with all their beauty and sorrow. The love of textiles has been a part of my life since I was a child. When I was 5 I learned to knit . My mom, Carol, sewed all of our clothing and household accessories way out in the boonies in Madagascar. She taught me to sew on a treadle sewing machine and as a young girl my sisters and I were taught the art of fine hand stitching by Spanish missionary nuns. I went to an American boarding school in the south of the Island where a teacher's wife taught us girls to sew on an electric sewing machine. At 16 we moved to South Africa where I finished high school. In South Africa I learned the art of traditional German doll making and the Waldorf Education system of using natural fibers like wool felt and wool stuffing. I went to college in Minnesota where I majored in Functional Art. After that, I apprenticed with a Master Weaver in Minneapolis for a year. Upon my move to Maryland I learned the art of quilting.
During the years of my business incubation, I was a stay at home mom raising three wonderful daughters who are the stars in my universe. I am daily thankful for them and for the support of my family in my life.
